International Workshop ‘Migration, Mobility and Social Transformation’, April 21-22, 2025

The workshop set out to bring together scholars working across sociology, anthropology, political science, history, and culture studies to examine how contemporary forms of movement and political change are reshaping the contours of Asian societies. The concept note foregrounded two linked axes. The first attends to migration, mobility, and citizenship, including internal and cross-border movement driven by conflict, climate events, labour markets, and the afterlives of colonial boundaries. This framing provided a common language for a set of empirically rich and conceptually informed conversations that travelled across regions from the Deccan Plateau, Eastern Himalayas and Assam to Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
